Easter Joy !

The true joy of Easter reigns ……………………..  My church bulletin had a comment; “On Easter morning when the disciples saw the evidence of the Resurrection, they did not at first grasp it. John reports that ‘they did not understand the Scripture that he had to rise from the dead’. We, on the other hand, have both scripture and church tradition to teach us.”  On Good Friday this year as I heard the Passion, I was actually thinking that for all these years I focused on the pain and despair but I realize that Jesus was able to get through it because he knew it was a part of the journey, not the end.  It was the disciples, Mary, and the followers that were not able to truly understand. We do have such a gift in that we have the scriptures and our church to give us the good news of the resurrection. That is our Easter Joy!

Parents of 5th and 6th Graders….

We are in need of parents to volunteer to help with the Fall Fun Fair.  The Fall Fun Fair is the major source of funding for the trip that your children will take when they are 8th graders.  This is a trip called Bueller Day, and it is one of their last celebrations of their community together before they graduate. This is a full day exploring Chicago sights which include seeing Blue Man Group, sharing meals and generally having a day to remember.   To fund this trip, the seventh grade puts on a Fall Fun Fair in the 1st quarter of the school year. The Fun Fair is a highlight for the younger students of the school, and it does substantially fund the Bueller trip.   That makes it a true “win win” event!  We encourage the parents of both 5th and 6th graders to give leadership to the 2013 Fall Fun Fair. Having a succession of leadership would make this activity flow smoothly from one year to the next.  We are hopeful to establish an ongoing team towards this goal!  The chairperson for the 2013 Fun Fair is Laura Meagher. If you can help, please drop an email to Laura at laurameagher@hotmail.com.  This will unite the volunteers and connect you to the leadership from the 2012 Fall Fun Fair so you may begin planning.  Thanks in advance for your willingness to step forward to help.

The SHPP Faith Formation Committee has invited Dr. Coleen Mast, a leader in the field of chastity education, to offer her popular “Puberty Presentations for Father/Son and Mother/Daughter” to our Fifth Grade class and their parents. The sessions will be held on Friday April 5th from 6:30-8:30 pm in McSherry Hall (Mother/Daughter), and in the Gym (Father/Son). The talks consist of two simultaneous two hour presentations in two different rooms; the girls led by Dr. Mast, and the boys led by a pro-life man. The presentations will include videos and discussions on how to mature spiritually and emotionally while these physical changes are taking place. The presentation will include some theology and biology of the body, with practical advice for puberty and virtue challenges. The boys’ program is entitled “Strong, Smart and Pure.”; while the girls’ program is called “Truth, Beauty, & Life.”  While this is a 5th grade specific program, Dr. Renehan is recommending that 4th grade parents attend but without their children.  Participation in these sessions is optional and at no additional cost.  No food will be offered during these sessions.
