Math Competition Session
The MATHCOUNTS Competition Series is a national program that provides students the opportunity to compete in live, in-person math contests alongside their peers. Created in 1983, it has grown into the premier competition for middle school students.
HOW DOES IT WORK? The Competition Series builds on multiple levels:
• School-level: students from grades 6-8 are invited to participate in a school-level competition on Monday, December 3rd, after school. Please plan to meet in Mrs. Samonds’ room (Room 180) at 3:45 pm. The test will begin at 4 pm. It will end at about 5:15 pm. Students just need a pencil and their calculator.
• Chapter (regional): the highest scoring students from the ASCA school-level competition will advance to the regional competition; this will be held on a Saturday in February (exact date TBA) with students from ~25 other public and private schools.
• State and National: top performing teams from all around the State of Illinois converge on Lisle on March 23rd. A national level is offered to the top performers.
It is a great program, and our ASCA students have enjoyed this event over the years, along with great success. Students that participate have consistently grown through the experience. We look forward to seeing many of you on Monday, December 3 after school!
