Saints Speak from Mrs. Marshall - 11/9/2023 - Preparing Our Hearts

Take a few minutes today to reflect on these words from Pope Francis:

When people become self-centered and self-enclosed, their greed increases. The emptier a person’s heart is, the more he or she needs things to buy, own and consume.”

Personally, this message resonates with me as we enter the holiday season. As parents, we always want to make the holidays special for our children, and purchasing gifts for them is often a part of that. This message reminds me that while there is nothing wrong with purchasing gifts for our loved ones, we also have a responsibility as parents to teach them about the true reason we celebrate Christmas and to encourage them to have giving hearts. As we begin preparing for Christmas, may we not only prepare our home and buy presents for under our trees but also prepare our hearts to grow closer to Jesus.

End of 1st Trimester

Tomorrow is the last day of the first trimester! Our teachers are working on finalizing grades, and report cards will be sent home with all students next Friday, 11/17 (and on Thursday 11/16 if your preschooler is only here Tuesday/Thursday). The report card is yours to keep; please sign and return the envelope with your child the following Monday.

Academic Eligibility

As we enter the second trimester, we will be making some changes to our eligibility policy. We learned our policy was much stricter than the local Catholic high schools and other Catholic elementary schools. We are adjusting to be more in line with other schools while still holding our students to a high standard of academic excellence. The updated policy is below and has been added to our Parent-Student Handbook. It will go into effect on Monday as we begin the second trimester and applies to all school-sponsored athletics and extracurricular activities.

Current grades are available via FACTS to parents and students. Eligibility is checked each Friday from the midpoint of the trimester until the end of the trimester.  Any child who has an F in any class will not be eligible to participate in any extra-curricular activity, until grades are raised to a minimum of a D-. Parents of 5-6-7-8 grade students should monitor the grades online through FACTS on a weekly basis to ensure that their student is not in danger of grade ineligibility. Teachers are NOT expected to provide the student with extra opportunities to increase his/her grade. The teacher is expected to encourage the student in the normal day-to-day learning opportunities for assessment and participation.  Parents are NOT to contact teachers to ask them to grade assignments in order for a student to become eligible.

Junior high classroom teachers will publish grades on a weekly basis so that students and parents can stay informed of the progress being made.

If the grade in any class is below a D- average, then the student is ineligible for one week, starting Monday following the Friday grade check. Once ineligible, a student needs to improve his/her class grade to a D- average or better to become eligible.  Eligibility is reevaluated weekly until the student improves his/her grades.  If the grade drops again below a D-, parents can expect that ineligibility will again be activated.  The assistant principal will check grades weekly and will then contact the athletic director about student athlete eligibility. In the absence of an athletic director, the assistant principal will communicate directly with parents and coaches about eligibility.

Grandparents Day

ASCA Grandparents Day is quickly approaching! We look forward to having many grandparents and VIPs with us that morning to see our school and spend time with our amazing students. If your family has not yet RSVPed yet, please click here to do so today. You can view the invitation here as well if you need any information on the day.

Christmas FFO Opportunities: Poinsettias and Family Photos

We are excited to offer not one but TWO opportunities to earn toward your FFO this Christmas!

  1. ASCA will once again be selling poinsettias. Plants are provided by Fresh Thyme (thank you!!) and will be delivered directly to school on Tuesday, December 5th for your easy pickup. These red 6” poinsettia plants are only $12 each, and each one will earn you $6 in FFO credit. Click here to reserve yours today. There are only 100 plants available, first-come, first served.
  2. Take your holiday family photos right here at All Saints! On Sunday, December 3rd, local photographer Laura Egan will be here taking family photos in front of an adorable holiday camper. A portion of the cost will be donated back to ASCA and applied to your FFO! Look for the sign-up coming soon.

Lost and Found

Our Lost & Found collection has become quite large again, and we would like to clear it out before we invite so many special guests to campus for Grandparents Day. If your child is missing an item, please have them check the Lost and Found tables at Door 1 before end of day Friday, 11/17. We have books, coats, water bottles, shoes, and more that have been left behind. Anything left after school on Friday will be donated.
