Saints Speak from Mrs. Marshall - 11/21/2024 - Can We Be Peacemakers?

Please read today’s Saints Speak in its entirety, as we have a lot happening at ASCA in the coming days and weeks!

This week’s “saint” is Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati. He is not a saint quite yet but will hopefully be canonized in 2025. He lived in the early 1900s in Italy, and I picked him for our students this week because he is relatable for young people. He loved sports, especially outdoor sports like mountain climbing and skiing. His life was “ordinary” in so many ways, but was also extraordinary in how he lived out the Beatitudes. While he only lived to be 24, he spent most of his young adult life helping the poor and needy in his community. 

It might not be feasible for us to directly minister to the poor the way Frassati did, but I asked the students to consider this week how they can live the Beatitudes. This is a worthwhile question for us to consider as adults, too. Can we be merciful? Can we hunger for righteousness, standing up for what is right even when it may not be a popular choice? Can we be peacemakers in our homes and our communities? This is our call, today and every day!

Annual Appeal

Earlier this week, you should have received the All Saints Annual Appeal letter in your home mailbox. As the letter shares, this year there is much to be thankful for at All Saints! We are celebrating our 20^th anniversary as well as our highest enrollment in nine years. We continue to upgrade our facilities and academic programs while staying true to our mission of creating saints and scholars. Thank you for sharing your children with us, allowing us to be part of their lives, and trusting us to partner with you in their development. We are so grateful!

The Annual Appeal allows us to continue this important work of educating young minds and forming hearts in Christ. Our goal this year is to raise $30,000. If each current ASCA Family gave $100, we would surpass our goal! We would love to see 100% family participation as we celebrate this 20^th anniversary of ASCA.

Please prayerfully consider supporting the Annual Appeal to the extent you are able. Each gift, no matter the amount, demonstrates your support for and faith in our school community. As an added incentive, we will be having a contest among our homerooms. For the homeroom with the greatest percentage of families who contribute to the appeal (any amount) before 12/31/24, we will host a family ice cream social in January! How great would it be to have multiple homerooms with 100% participation and a huge ice cream social to ring in the New Year?!

Grandparents Day

We are so excited to welcome our grandparents and special guests on Tuesday! We are expecting a very full house for the day. All visitors should plan to enter at Door 1; the morning will include refreshments, time to visit classrooms and read a book in the library, photos taken by Elan Photography, and Mass at 10:15. Due to space limitations this school Mass will be only for students and their grandparents/special guests. Parents, we look forward to having you back for our next school Mass after Thanksgiving.

As a reminder, all students will dismiss at 11:30am on Tuesday to begin the long holiday weekend. There is no lunch, no bus home, and no after care on Tuesday. If your child is going home with his/her grandparents, you should have marked this on the RSVP. If you aren’t sure, please email your child’s homeroom teacher so they are aware and there is no confusion at dismissal. If you know your child will not be in attendance on Tuesday, please let us know in advance by emailing attendance@ascacademy.org. Thank you!

Report Cards

Report cards for the first trimester will be sent home with your child tomorrow. The report card is yours to keep; please sign and return the envelope on Monday. I personally review all of the report cards, and I am very proud of our students’ learning and growth throughout the first trimester!

As I told the kids on Monday morning, everyone begins the second trimester with a clean slate and a fresh start. It’s an opportunity to continue our good habits while also working to improve on areas for growth. The holiday season in schools is a time of excitement and energy, but it also needs to remain a time of learning and focus. Please help by reminding your students of school expectations during these next few weeks as we balance our studies and the many fun “extras.” 

Peter Pan

Winter Weather

Despite the mild fall, today has proven that winter really is on its way! We try to get students outside for recess as much as possible in the winter months. Please be sure to send your child to school each day with a coat, hat, gloves, scarf, boots, and snow pants when applicable. Students are only able to go in the snow if they have boots and snow pants, and we don’t want any of them to miss out in the fun!

Marmion Math Contest

Last weekend, ten of our students competed in the Marmion Math Contest. They won both team and individual awards!

• Team 1 (James Budd, Mary Devine, Kameron Glynn, Cindy Montgomery, Maya Sida) earned 1^st place as a team and 1^st place overall
• Team 2 (Norah Gardner, Jeffrey Jiao, Sebastian Mourad, Hasan Qadri, Eain Sawko) earned 5^th place as a team and 5^th place overall
• Mary Devine got 8^th place on the individual competition
• Jeffrey Jiao got 7^th place on the individual competition
• Sebastian Mourad got 6^th place on the individual competition
• Kameron Glynn got 5^th place on the individual competition
• Eain Sawko got 3^rd place on the individual competition
• James Budd got 1^st place on the individual competition

Diocesan News
