Saints Speak - 8/3/2023 - The First One
This is the first Saints Speak of the school year. I’m still working on formatting communications through FACTS as we are learning more about this new system each day! I hope you’re finding the system to be user-friendly so far.
As returning families know, you can expect to receive an email from me each Thursday, titled Saints Speak, which is the ASCA version of a principal newsletter and shares important updates about the school. When school begins you will also receive a weekly email each Sunday from Patty Bajek with reminders for the coming week, links to needed sign-ups, and other details to help you stay organized in the coming week. Please take the time to read both these emails each week to ensure a successful school week for your family.
We are blessed to have several new team members joining the ASCA faculty this year! Click here to read more about each of them. You will have the opportunity to meet them in person at Meet & Greet, and you can always contact them via email as you would for any other ASCA staff members, using their first initial and last name followed by @ascacademy.org. I know you are anxious to not only meet the new teachers but know which classes your child has. Class lists will be available via next Thursday’s Saints Speak.
I mentioned in my last email that we have had several improvements to our campus over the summer. The latest upgrade is our new phone system; that transition is underway today and tomorrow. If you call, please bear with us as it may take us a moment or two longer to transfer calls as we get comfortable in the new system. If you leave us a message in the next few days and we don’t call you back, send an email to ensure we got your voicemail. We want to make sure we don’t miss any calls during this transition.
Two of our extracurricular programs are accepting registrations for their fall sessions! Please click here to read more about Sticky Fingers, our after-school cooking class, or click here to learn about Chess Scholars. All registration information is included in the flyers. More information on our Art Club, held on Tuesdays after school, will be available soon.
Make sure you have these two upcoming dates on your calendars:
- Saturday, August 12, 9am-12pm – Uniform Resale! If you haven’t tried on last year’s uniforms yet, this is the time to make sure everything fits and consider shopping at ASCA on August 12 for bargain uniforms.
- Thursday, August 17, 3pm-5pm – Meet & Greet! We can’t wait to have you all back and celebrate a new school year with us.
If you haven’t already done so, please click here to share your child’s t-shirt size TODAY. Each student will receive a t-shirt with our school theme, Building a Strong Foundation in Christ, to add to their ASCA spirit wear collection.
Lastly, some of you may be aware of Faith’s Law (Public Act 102-0676, 105 ILCS 5/2-3.188), a new Illinois law intended to further ensure the safety of all children while at school. This resource guide was developed by the Illinois State Board of Education in consultation with relevant stakeholders across the state. It provides guidance for students, parent/guardians, and teachers about sexual abuse response and prevention resources available in the community.
Next week’s Saints Speak will have information on how to find which class your child is in, procedures for arrival and dismissal, and required online forms before the first day of school. Thanks for reading through these important communications as we get ready for August 21st!
Enjoy these last few weeks of summer,
Margie Marshall
